T.E.M.R.A. (Top End Mud Racing Association) - Mud Racing
The last race of the Top End Mud Racing Association was April 22nd, the end of the wet season in Darwin, Northern Territory, Australia. The season starts in October during the rainy build up, and is on once a month until the knock-em down rains come to and end. There are three classes of races, 4WD, 2WD and Quad Bikes. Some cars racing are modified road cars, and then in class 6, Top Gun custom built vehicles that fly through the mud, splashing the fans (heavily).
On the night I went it was humid, and around 33 degrees, even up until closing at 11pm. All the kids, and some adults, stand by the track and wait to get splashed by the racing. You can then shower off and drip dry in a matter of minutes, or go get splashed all over again.
Families come with their esky's, and then let the kids wallow in the mud, and cheer on their favourite racers. In the lackadaisical heat of the NT, this is an amazing way to spend a Saturday night.
